PM Surya Ghar: Muft Bijli Yojana pays homeowners a central subsidy for installing rooftop solar. For a typical Greater Noida or Noida home, it cuts the system cost by up to ₹78,000. Here's exactly how it works.
How much subsidy will I get?
- 1 kW: ₹30,000
- 2 kW: ₹60,000
- 3 kW or more: ₹78,000 (maximum)
The subsidy is capped at ₹78,000, but bigger systems still save more each month. If your bill is above ₹4,000, a 5 kW system usually gives the best lifetime return even though the subsidy stays the same.
Who is eligible?
- An Indian citizen who owns a house with a suitable roof
- A valid electricity connection in your name
- No previous central subsidy received for rooftop solar
- Panels must be ALMM-listed and installed by a registered vendor
The 6 steps from application to credit
- Register on pmsuryaghar.gov.in with your consumer number
- Apply for rooftop solar and choose a registered vendor
- DISCOM (NPCL / PVVNL) grants technical feasibility
- The vendor installs the system
- The DISCOM inspects it and installs the net meter
- Submit bank details. The subsidy is credited to your account, typically within 30–60 days
