How many kW of solar does my home need? (with a bill-to-kW table)

A simple way to size rooftop solar from your electricity bill, plus the roof space and budget you'll need.

In NCR, each kW of solar produces roughly 120 units a month on average across the year. Divide your monthly units by 120 and you have your system size.

Quick sizing table

  • Bill ₹1,500 (≈215 units): 2 kW
  • Bill ₹2,500 (≈360 units): 3 kW
  • Bill ₹4,000 (≈570 units): 5 kW
  • Bill ₹6,000 (≈860 units): 7 kW
  • Bill ₹8,500+ (≈1,200 units): 10 kW

Roof space

Plan on about 80 sq ft of shadow-free roof per kW, so a 5 kW system needs around 400 sq ft. Elevated structures let you keep using the roof underneath.

For a figure based on your own bill, use the savings calculator on our homepage. It shows system size, subsidy, net cost and payback in seconds.
